What are the pros and cons of using target retirement funds and otherwise?

Monday, September 5th, 2011
S M asked:

I have heard of target retirement funds, but do they give the best yield and do we still have to re balance the account every few months and manage the account like one would do if it wasn’t a target retirement fund??

Can I take money out of retirement accounts to start my business without a big ding?

Friday, August 19th, 2011
Pam77847 asked:

I want to start a business, but we took a second on our house when my husband started his business. It’s going OK, but not as fast as we’d like to see it. I need some cash to start another type of business, but need to do it now. Would it be better to put it on credit cards or take money from my retirement accounts? I thought I heard you can use money from your retirement accounts only to start a business because that is like funding your retirement.

What is the federal and state dollar amount to withhold when withdrawing from a non-qualified retirement plan?

Thursday, August 11th, 2011
asked:

I contributed $25,000 towards a retirement plan at Conseco Insurance Company, and need to withdraw the total amount for a home purchase now. This was an after tax contribution of $25,000 that started the retirement account. Now the balance is a little over $32,000, and I need to purchase a home and withdraw the entire amount. For tax purposes, how much should I have them withhold for state of michigan taxes and the federal government (IRS) taxes?

What is the tax treatment for liquid corporate assets upon the end/retirement of a business?

Saturday, August 6th, 2011
sirish asked:

The business is a CCPC (Canadian-Controlled Private Corporation) and the owner will be ending the business due to retirement. There are some liquid corporate assets that exist within the corporation. Is the only option to cash out all the assets at once and take a huge tax hit, or may the owner keep the corporation running and take out liquid assets each year to cover living expenses (thus not taking as much of a tax hit)? Any links to information would be much appreciated.
