Is it better to withdraw my 401K in a year where I make less money or more money?

Thursday, July 29th, 2010
harison13 asked:

I plan to withdraw my 401K in the near future for reasons beyond this forum. I made about $120K this year, but anticipate making less in 2012. Ill probably make about $60K in 2012.

Is there an advantage to withdrawing in 2012 as opposed to 2011?

Can I dump savings into a new 401k to boost my company contribution?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010
Brudwyr asked:

I qualify for my company’s matching contribution in November and am wondering if it’s possible to dump some of my savings into the 401k initially as a means of increasing the amount of money I get from my company. I’m under 50, so I know I don’t qualify for the “catch up” contribution. Thanks for all answers!

When you rollover a 401k account to an IRA at the same brokerage, can you keep the same 401k portfolio?

Saturday, July 24th, 2010
asked:

When you rollover a 401k account to an IRA at the same brokerage, can you keep the same exact 401k portfolio for your IRA? Will they do this for you automatically when you ask them to roll it over to the IRA? At least for now, I would like to keep the same exact portfolio I had for my 401k for my IRA. Thank you.

Friday, July 9th, 2010
matt asked:

I’m trying to grow my 401K and was thinking about putting more in the international sector since our economy seems to be slow.

Has anyone done this before and if so would it be a good idea?

Any other idea’s are welcome.

Does it make any sense to continue contributing to a company 401K right now?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010
Emily Dew asked:

The stock market seems to set new lows every week and it just seems that I could be using that extra money in my paycheck every week instead of throwing it down the drain, which is what it feels like I’m doing with my 401K contributions right now. Does it make sense to continue making contributions right now? Should I reduce them? Should I start them and then resume them later when the market gets more stable? Thanks!

How much can I put in Traditional IRA if I have a 401k?

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010
Susan M asked:

Is there a max amount we can put in a Traditional IRA account if my husband has a 401k through work? Can someone explain how that works? We’re trying to avoid paying even more taxes for 2009 by opening an IRA account. We’ve already paid a lot of taxes and now we’re supposed to pay an additional $5,000 because we’re now in a higher tax bracket.
