Where can I legally put my retirement funds to keep them from being shared?

Saturday, February 19th, 2011
I.P. Orange asked:

I bought into the IRA hype decades ago and put a little away each month, like the ant, to now have a substantial amount. Evidence is growing that retirement accounts are going to be seized by the federal gov’t to pay for ever increasing government debt. Besides gold, which I have quite a bit of, what’s another good place to invest, short of leaving the country?

Trooper81Q asked:

I’m in a high school personal finance class. The book says 10%, but that seems like too little. How much would you set aside for retirement?

How much is enough to save for retirement?

Sunday, February 13th, 2011
Nancee asked:

I’m almost 24 years old and I feel like I’m obsessed with saving for retirement. I think it’d be better if I had an idea of how much I should actually be saving. If I max out an IRA every year from now until I retire at 65, will that be enough to live off of? I need to set a reasonable limit for myself so that I can actually have money to go out and have some fun rather than just sit at home when I’m not at work.

At the end of this month, you will start saving $150 a month for retirement through your company’s retirement?

Sunday, February 13th, 2011
kimeko_walker asked:

your company’s retirement plan. Your employer will contribute an additional $.50 for every $1.00 you save. If you are employed by this firm for 30 more years and earn an average 12 percent on your retirement savings, how much will you have in your retirement account 30 years from now?
How would I figure this out?

Thanks!

Ty C asked:

On Vanguard it has a “General Investing” account and a “Retirement Investment” account. Obviously the latter is for IRAs, but what is the advantages and purpose of the general investing?
