Why do most Americans refuse to save enough money for a comfortable retirement?

Sunday, September 25th, 2011
Williams asked:

Something like 30% of all Americans have no retirement savings AT ALL (they spent everything), and another 30 to 40% of Americans don’t have nearly enough savings to live comfortably during retirement.

Why is this?

Why do so many Americans live so irresponsibly, and refuse to save for their own retirements?

Are they just mentally dumb, or what?

How should i start saving for retirement?

Sunday, September 18th, 2011
d man asked:

I am a 19 year old college student. I realize that by the time I reach 65 social security will be non existent. Thats what happens when are government decides to borrow against it. What is the best way to start saving for retirement. I want to put about 500 aside now, and add at least ten percent each pay check. With CD rates so low, is the best investment an annuity? Roth IRA?

Why not take from the Senators retirement funds to payback the people’s retirement (SS)govenment took from us?

Saturday, September 17th, 2011
asked:

It is somehow corrupt to take our retirement (otherwise known as social security) and use it for other programs then tell we the people we are out of money for our old age. Why is this never addressed for what it is? You can simply replace what was taken from SS with money from the Sentators retirement fund. We the people pay that as well.

Monday, September 5th, 2011
S M asked:

I have heard of target retirement funds, but do they give the best yield and do we still have to re balance the account every few months and manage the account like one would do if it wasn’t a target retirement fund??
